This enhanced partnership strengthens their role as both a National and Program Partner, while also supporting our Dental Home Project for another three years. Because of their support, not only will we serve thousands of children nationwide, but weâll also connect them with a dental home. We are so grateful.â â John McCarthy, Executive Director, TeamSmile

Expanding Our Impact: TeamSmile Launches Pilot Program for the IDD Population
There is a tremendous need to provide dental care for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) nationwide, and TeamSmile is proud to be part of the solution.
Our new Pilot Program aims to: 1)Serve children with disabilities who desperately need dental care. 2) Inspire clinical professionals to extend their services to the IDD population in their own communities.
In 2024, we implemented a test run at the Buffalo Bills, and due to its success, we are excited to expand the program in 2025 with: đ´ââ ď¸ Pittsburgh Pirates đ Buffalo Bills đ Kansas City Chiefs
"This pilot showcases the impact of dental professionals and occupational therapists (OTs), including students, coming together to create an empowering experience for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through pre-event interviews with caregivers and teachers, OTs gather valuable insights to customize interventions for each child. On the day of the event, OTs and dental providers collaborate to implement strategies like sensory supports, calming techniques, and trauma-informed care, ensuring a positive and successful dental experience for the children." Elisabeth Thompson OTR/L,
Clinical Instructor of Health Sciences' School of Dental Medicine | University at Buffalo, Department of Pediatric and Community Dentistry
This initiative would not be possible without the generosity and support of our sponsors: â Dental Trade Alliance Foundation (DTA Foundation) â Pacific Dental Services Foundation (PDS Foundation) â Avesis
Thank you for being so committed to expanding access to dental care for children with disabilities. We look forward to growing this program and making an even more significant impact together!
